united voices of peace

Get Lit, the united Nations, TOMS

The challenge: Young people have always been at the forefront of movements for peace and justice, but their voices rarely make it into the rooms where global policy is shaped. Get Lit wanted to change that, bringing youth poets to the world's most prominent diplomatic stage and turning their words into a concrete, lasting resource.

The work: As Manager of Communications at Get Lit, I coordinated the United Voices of Peace initiative from the ground up: overseeing content strategy, managing the production of a hand-crafted art zine, and helping bring twelve youth poets to perform at the United Nations 73rd General Assembly. The zine, created in collaboration with TOMS, wove together poets' words and visual artists' work into individual and collective visions for a more equitable world.

The result: What began as a performance at the UN became a global movement. TOMS and Get Lit distributed 55,000 physical copies of the zine nationwide and implemented a peace curriculum that reached 20,000 youth across more than ten countries. The project was covered by NYLON, which called it "the exact catalyst for change" the moment demanded.
